Help us save the local toy drive after flooding damage

Every year National City Firefighters participate in the city’s “Spirit of the Holidays” where toys and a Christmas meal are given to families in need.Last week the flooding in the city caused damage to around 180 toys and countless amounts of canned food. The amount coming to approximately $3000 in damaged goods.The event is this Saturday and we could use donations of toys or canned food. Feel free to drop off at Station 34 at 343 E 16th Street. Early Morning Station 34 Fire

Early this morning, the National City Firefighters were awoken when a vehicle crashed just outside of Station 34. A vehicle lost control and struck a gas pipe causing a natural gas fire. With quick response from crews, they were able to keep the fire from spreading. Thank you to our brothers and sisters in blue who arrived on the scene and were able to pull the driver out of the car.Fortunately, no one was injured and there was no significant property damage. Great work by all personnel on the scene.

It is National Mental Health Awareness Month which is a great reason to talk about the invisible injuries firefighters suffer from because of the physical and mental stress of their jobs. Annual Spirit of the Holidays Toy & Food Giveaway


National City’s annual Spirit of the Holidays toy and food giveaway event. This event is held every year and the intentions are to provide food and toys to residents in the community to make the holidays a little easier. A lot of work went into raising funds for the event such as, NCFD’s Spirit of the Holidays pancake breakfast, as well as several Pancake Breakfast held by the Lions Club National City. This is such a great way for us to give back to our community, and we know that we wouldn’t be a fire department without them. Happy holidays everyone.

National City Firefighters Teams Up With KaBOOM!


National City Firefighters, as well as other city employees, are teaming up with “KaBOOM!” with building a playground at Las Palmas Park in National City. KaBOOM! works with cities to transform the everyday spaces – sidewalks, bus stops, vacant lots – into great places for kids to play. Through their Play Everywhere initiatives and grant programs, they are eliminating the behavioral barriers to play with low-cost, mobile, and most importantly, fun play opportunities.

National City Fire helps with the Wildomar Fire


Captain Diaz and Engineer Viora are currently assigned to the Wildomar Fire in Lake Elsinore. Water Tender 34 was requested last night at 20:00hrs to assist with operations at the fire. They made it up safely last night and this is what they woke up to early this morning. Stay safe out there everyone!

New Battalion Chief

After Eleven years of great service by our previous Battalion Chief vehicle, we were finally able to purchase this brand new beauty.  It’s been a long time coming and our department is extremely grateful for this new asset. Our previous Battalion Chief vehicle will stay with the department as a reserve apparatus for our frontline vehicle.

Respond to call

National City and Chula Vista Fire crews on scene of a commercial building with smoke in the building. Crews searched the building to locate where the smoke was coming from but nothing was found. Smoke dissipated prior to crews clearing the scene. Occupants who were evacuated were able to return to work once the smoke cleared

Vehicle rollover in Bonita

National City Engine 31 and AMR 411 responded to a single vehicle rollover in Bonita. The driver lost control while going down a hill which caused his vehicle to roll down an embankment. The vehicle ended up in the driveway of a private residence. There was one patient and fortunately he only suffered minor injuries. 411 transported to a neighboring trauma facility per protocol.  Accidents happen every day, just a reminder to everyone to be safe while driving for yourself and everyone else on the road as well.

Camp Beyond The Scars

The Burn Institute holds a Camp Beyond The Scars every year for kids that are survivors of burns. Their mission is To provide young burn survivors with a fun, safe, supportive, and inclusive camp environment that encourages healing, personal growth and character development within a natural setting.  Camp Beyond The Stars is full of activities, counseling, bonding, and more, every year the National City Firefighters come out out provide lunch for the kids. The Parker 2 Fire

Currently we have two line medics out on deployment. They're both at The Parker 2 Fire in the Modoc National Forest. Engineer Day is working on Division H and Captin Robinson is working on Division Z. (A Fire is broken up like the alphabet. The fire goes from left (A) to right (z).)  They are slated to stay out there for at least 14 days but can be extended to 21. They're job while out on the fire is to provide medical aid if a firefighter gets injured fighting the fire. They're attached to hand crews and stay with them the whole time while they're on the fire line. Stay safe out there fellas and keep up the hard work.

Two Vehicle Traffic Collision

Nantional City Fire Department E31 and Chula Vista Firefighters E52 responded to a two vehicle traffic collision on I-805 SB. One of the vehicles was up against the center median and the passenger doors were pinned shut due to the impact. Crews worked well together to pop open the door then extricate the victim out of the vehicle safely Crews used a special extrication tool called a Power Hawk to pop open the passenger door. Fortunately the victims only suffered minor injuries and were transported by AMR 412. Nice work everyone!

National Night Out

National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday in August. This event promotes police / community partnerships to make local communities safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out gives communities the opportunity to meet with their local law enforcement under positive circumstances for a night of fun. National City participated in National Night Out this year and had a blast getting to know the community members while enjoying various activities, food, and safety demonstrations.
