Who We Are

NCFA WhoWeAre2

The National City Firefighters have a long and proud history. The Fire Department itself is the oldest Fire Department in the county, having been established in 1887. Throughout our history and still today, we have a reputation as being tough, well trained and highly professional in our service to the citizens of National City.

The National City Fire Department runs well over 7800 calls a year, consistently ranking us among the busiest per capita in the county. Two (4-person) paramedic assessment engines, one paramedic assessment(4 person) truck and a 24 hr Battalion Chief are assigned daily to protect and serve the 65,000 residents and 100,000 daily population of National City. The city itself is 9.5 square miles and is bordered by Chula Vista and San Diego City. AMR Paramedic ambulances are also housed at our stations. The National City Fire Department provides automatic aid to the City of San Diego, Chula Vista, Bonita and Imperial Beach.

Our Director of Emergency Services is Frank Parra. Mr. Parra is a lifetime National City resident, former Council member and veteran paramedic in San Diego County. The local is also very fortunate to have a positive, progressive and open relationship with the Mayor, City Council and City Manager. We all share the same goal: Provide the citizens of National City with the highest and most professional level of public safety!

Our Firefighters union was formed in 1979. We have always been and continue to be highly visible and dedicated to the needs of the community. The NCFFA is also involved in many community organizations and charities. The following is a list of just a few:
